Terms of use
The short version: Mealwick is a kitchen helper, not a safety device. Use your own judgement about food, keep your account to yourself, and subscriptions are handled by the app stores.
Draft, for lawyer review. These terms describe the app as it works today. They have not yet been reviewed by a lawyer and will be finalised before the app is released on the stores. Last updated 6 October 2026.

1. The agreement
These terms are between you and the operator of Mealwick: Aventine, the studio of Zane Volschenk, until a registered company takes over the app (“we”, “us”). By installing or using the Mealwick app you agree to them. If you do not agree, please do not use the app.
If you download the app from the Apple App Store or Google Play, their terms apply as well, and where they conflict with these on matters of payment and refunds, the store’s terms win.
2. What Mealwick is
Mealwick is a mobile app for keeping track of the food in your fridge, freezer and pantry, planning meals, writing shopping lists and cooking from recipes. It works on the information you put in. If you tell it you have 6 eggs, it believes you.
3. Food safety is your call
Use-by dates, “use soon” warnings, freezer dates, defrost reminders and leftover dates are estimates based on typical shelf lives and on what you entered. They are a convenience, not a guarantee. Always check food yourself before eating it, and follow the dates and storage instructions on the packaging and the law where you live.
Recipes, nutrition figures and Chef’s suggestions are general information. They are not medical, dietary or allergy advice. If you have an allergy, intolerance or medical condition, check every ingredient and label yourself. Mealwick’s diet and allergy settings help filter recipes, but they can be wrong or incomplete, and we cannot promise that any recipe is free of a given ingredient.
4. Your account and household
You can use Mealwick without an account. If you sign in to share a kitchen with a household, you are responsible for what happens under your account, including who you invite with the household code. Keep the code to people you trust. You must be an adult to create an account or a household. Children can be added as members by an adult, as described in our privacy policy.
You can leave a household or ask us to delete your account at any time. If the person whose subscription covered the household leaves, the household goes back to the free version.
5. Premium subscriptions
- Premium is an optional, auto-renewing subscription bought through the Apple App Store or Google Play. The price, currency and free-trial length are shown by the store before you subscribe.
- A free trial converts to a paid subscription when it ends unless you cancel before then. The app reminds you two days before a trial ends, if you allow notifications.
- You cancel, change or restore a subscription in your Apple or Google account settings. Cancelling stops the next renewal; it does not refund the current period.
- Refunds are decided by Apple or Google under their policies. We cannot issue refunds ourselves for store purchases.
- One Premium or Family subscription covers everyone in your household, up to the household size for that plan.
- Premium features, such as household sharing and the Chef AI allowance, are described in the app. We may add, change or retire features over time, and we will not reduce what a plan includes during a period you have already paid for.
6. Chef and AI answers
Chef answers partly from the app itself and, when the AI service is available, partly through an AI model run by Anthropic. AI answers can be wrong, odd or incomplete. Treat them as suggestions from a helpful but fallible cook, and use your own judgement.
AI use comes with a monthly allowance per plan and a shared cost limit for the service. When an allowance or the limit is reached, Chef keeps working with its built-in answers until the next month. We may change the allowances with notice in the app.
7. Recipes, photos and your content
The recipe library, the app’s design, the Chef character and this website belong to us or to our licensors. Dish photos from Wikimedia Commons are used under their Creative Commons licences and credited in the app. You may use all of this for your own cooking, not to build another product.
What you put into the app, such as your kitchen contents, imported recipes, plans and lists, stays yours. If you share it with a household, you give the other members permission to see and use it in the app. If you import a recipe from a website, make sure you are allowed to.
8. What we ask of you
- Use the app for cooking and running a kitchen, not for anything unlawful or harmful.
- Do not try to break, overload, reverse-engineer or copy the app or the service, or to get around the AI allowances.
- Do not use Chef to generate content that is abusive, dangerous or unrelated to food. Chef is built to refuse these, and repeated attempts may lead us to suspend the AI service for your account.
- Keep your account and household code to yourself and the people you choose to share with.
9. Changes and ending the service
We may update the app and these terms. If a change matters, we will tell you in the app before it takes effect. Continuing to use the app after that means you accept the new terms.
You can stop using Mealwick at any time by deleting the app. We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms. If we ever have to shut the service down, we will give reasonable notice in the app, and anything stored only on your phone stays on your phone.
10. Liability
We work hard to make Mealwick accurate and reliable, but we provide it “as is”. To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for loss or damage arising from your use of the app, including food that has spoiled, a missed reminder, an allergic reaction, an incorrect recipe or AI answer, or data lost from your phone. Nothing in these terms limits rights you have as a consumer under the law where you live, or liability that cannot be limited by law.
11. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the country in which the operator of Mealwick is established, without affecting the consumer protections of the country where you live. The lawyer should confirm the jurisdiction and dispute-resolution wording here once the company is registered.
